DHL Stadium to host Vodacom United Rugby Championship semi-final

The DHL Stormers will go up against Irish rugby side, Connacht on Saturday, 13 May 2023 at DHL Stadium. Various road closures will be in effect to accommodate the event. 

The DHL Stormers have secured a spot in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship  semi-finals following their victory against the Vodacom Bulls last weekend. Backed by a crowd of 44 106 rugby enthusiasts – the largest Vodacom URC crowd at the DHL Stadium - the team put up an impressive performance, resulting in a 33 - 21 win.  

The DHL Stadium, together with Western Province Rugby, expects to host another massive crowd at this weekend's match. Spectators are encouraged to note road closures, make use of the available public transport options and to arrive early at the DHL Stadium to avoid congestion and long queues upon entry into the venue.

'We would like to encourage spectators to arrive early and avoid traffic heading into the CBD. We have arranged for the gates to open at 13:30, well ahead of the kick-off time which is 16:00. This will allow spectators ample time to enjoy a meal and drinks with friends and family. Furthermore, the beer garden, which is a huge hit among spectators, will be fully activated along with a Red Bull DJ before and after the match.

'As a once-off, we have catered for tickets at a special rate of R390 per person on the West Stand. This ticket price includes a seat on the halfway line and access to a cash and snack bar. For those spectators wanting to experience a fully-inclusive hospitality offering, tickets are available at R 1650 in the DHL Stadium Business Lounge,' said DHL Stadium Commercial Manager, Gina Woodburn

Road closures

The following road closures will be in effect:  Sonnenberg Road, Vlei Road, Stephan Way and Fort Wynyard Street will all be closed from 06:00 until 22:30, with restrictions on Helen Suzman Boulevard, Beach Road, Buitengracht Street and Granger Bay Boulevard.

Parking

There will be dedicated parking available in the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) P1 parking area for R100 pre-booked and R120 card on entry, with a free MyCiTi shuttle. CLICK HERE to book parking at CTICC.

There is also free public parking available on a first-come first-served basis at the Civic Centre from 12:00. There are 355 bays available at the Woodstock Parking Area (enter from Civic Road) and 120 bays in the Hertzog Parking Area (enter from Hertzog Boulevard incoming). Those parking at the Civic Centre will be able to catch a free MyCiTi Shuttle to the stadium from the Civic Centre station.

While there is heavy congestion expected in the stadium precinct, there is dedicated stadium rugby parking available in the stadium precinct at the P2 (CLICK HERE to book), P4 and P9 (R100 card payment on entry only) stadium parking areas.

The DHL Stadium is in a residential precinct, so please respect the residents and co-operate with the traffic officials on duty. Please note that illegally parked vehicles will be fined and/or towed away.

Ticket holders with disabilities are encouraged to formally request access to the parking bays dedicated in P5, by sending an e-mail to rmaritz@wprugby.co.za. These parking bays are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis.

Free MyCiTi shuttles

There are free MyCiTi shuttle services between the DHL Stadium and both the Civic Centre and Thibault Square and CTICC bus stations, which will be available for all those with a match ticket.

The shuttles will take spectators to the Stadium Station, starting at 13:00. Thereafter, a bus leaves every 15 minutes or when full. The last return bus leaves the Stadium bus station at 20:00.

E-Hailing

It is recommended that those using e-hailing services are dropped off and collected in the CBD at DF Malan Drive opposite the Artscape Theatre, Hertzog Boulevard or Jan Smuts Street and then use the MyCiTi shuttle, which is free to all event ticket holders, from the CTICC Civic Centre Station or Thibault Square Station, or alternatively use the Fan Walk.

There is an e-hailing drop-off area on Helen Suzman Boulevard between Vlei Road and Beach Road on both sides, but spectators are warned that drop-and-go and pick-up around the stadium will have very long delays due to traffic congestion.

Please note that umbrellas are prohibited at DHL Stadium.
